Celso Amorim

Celso Amorim has been a major figure in Brazilian diplomacy and international relations for more than three decades. He served as foreign secretary under President Itamar Franco in 1993 and as Brazil's Permanent Representative to the United Nations later in the decade. He resumed the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs when Lula came to power in 2003 and held it until 2010, before being appointed Minister or Defense by Dilma Rousseff. He is now Chief Advisor to the Special Advisory Office of the third Lula government.
